Men's Harvest Fair Isle - Bracken

The Michael Ross' Men's Harvest Fair Isle in Bracken is a classic Fair Isle jumper crafted on hand frames. The inspiration behind the stunning colourways of our Harvest Fair Isle pattern is one of Britain's finest wildlife and landscape artists, Gordon Benningfield. The Harvest pattern was originally conceived in 1979; Benningfield's drawings and paintings of butterflies, songbirds and the British countryside are a strong influence on the palette. Reflecting the unique colours of the British countryside and its wildlife, Harvest simultaneously relates to its traditional British knitwear heritage. Crafted by hand knitting machine and traditionally linked trims in the the Michael Ross workshops in Thatcham, England. Michael Ross knitwear are commitment to top quality design, construction and materials and uses 100% Scottish Wool. The products I received are of excellent quality but the customer service experience was equally as satisfying, which is increasingly rare these days. My goods were made to order and Dan kept me up to date and informed at each stage of the process, liaising with the manufacturers and couriers. My order arrived on time and Dan ensured it was arranged around a trip away to make sure I was able to receive it. Fantastic service and quality products, I wouldn't hesitate to order from Sir Gordon Bennett again.

Meet the Maker: Michael Ross

Established in 1979 in the Shetland Islands, Michael Ross creates bespoke hand-framed Fair Isle knitwear of extraordinary quality, now crafted in Thatcham, Berkshire. Founders Denis and Anna developed original designs drawing inspiration from fine art, the English countryside, and cinema - creating the Fair Isle jumpers seen in the House of Gucci film and producing pieces for Gucci and Laura Ashley. Using hand-frame knitting machines with traditional linked trims, Michael Ross achieves remarkable complexity with patterns containing up to 11 colours - impossible with automatic machines - creating nuanced colour play and shade variations. Each garment uses 100% pure new wool from Yorkshire, Donegal, and Shetland, hand-woven and made-to-order over eight weeks. Their intricate, luxurious Fair Isle crew necks, slip-overs, and waistcoats represent the pinnacle of British knitwear craftsmanship.
