Mechanics Jacket

Yarmouth Oilskins dug deep into their old catalogues to find jackets and garments that would work well today. And what they found was a beautiful Mechanics Jacket from 1905. It may have been originally designed for the workshop but cuts a dashing silhouette down the pub now. The Navy Mechanics Jacket has a slightly quirky curved chest pocket, maybe originally for holding a spanner or wrench? There is a matching inside pocket mirrored on the other side, which is a wonderful touch. All manufactured in Britain with french seams and herring bone tape internals. As with all Yarmouth Oilskins British made clothes they are designed to last a lifetime. The Navy Mechanics Jacket is made from a slightly heavier cotton twill which is a brighter navy. In the Yarmouth Oilskins archives the original colour was referred to as 'Bluette'. Is there a more perfect spring and summer jacket? Made in Great Yarmouth NOTE: If you are in doubt about your size we would advise erring on the larger size Click here for sizing info

Update 22/10/22 - There were supply chain issues, which can occur from time to time with any business and especially given the whole, 'I want it now', consumer thinking, leaving me deflated. BUT, SGB and Sir Dan did everything to sort it out and the customer service was brill. I was offered an alternative item with an extra goodwill gesture on top, and was more than happy to wait for the original, cherry on top included. Dan kept me informed and updated in regards to the supplier's updates and it was worth the wait.

I purchased the navy smock (Yarmouth Oilskins) for my partner as a birthday present. My partner had forwarded me a link to a similar smock from another company, but unfortunately that company did not provide shipping from the UK to Ireland. Fortunately I found a nearly identical smock with SGB! I really appreciated that this company ships to Ireland/EU and made it easy on my end (I am currently based in the US) so I didn't have to track it through customs or make extra payments toward import charges. My partner really loves the smock, he's a gardener by trade and has worn it everyday since it arrived and said the quality is really lovely. Many thanks to Dan for responding to my questions regarding shipping and help tracking the package through to delivery. I will definitely look here for future birthday gifts (and Christmas as well)! Cheers

Meet the Maker: Yarmouth Oilskins

Rooted in the maritime heritage of Great Yarmouth since 1898, this legendary manufacturer has crafted weatherproof oilskin garments for over 125 years from their Norfolk coastal factory. Originally serving fishermen, the merchant navy and agricultural workers, Yarmouth Stores (as it was known) once employed over 1,200 skilled machinists before World War II, exporting oilskins and workwear to markets throughout the world. Today, twenty dedicated craftspeople—many with over 25 years' service—continue handcrafting each garment using traditional methods and original patterns preserved in the company archives. Their oilskin fabrics are sourced from British mills using sustainable natural fibres, hand-treated to achieve legendary waterproofedness that has protected sailors and workers for generations. Each piece is FSC approved, designed for decades of hard wear rather than seasonal fashion, embodying timeless coastal workwear that remains as popular worldwide as it was in the early 1900s.
