She was so pleased with them that she didn't hand the gift straight over to her ladies in waiting, but put them in her own handbag as she wanted to keep them herself. William Whiteley & Sons are the oldest scissors works in the Western world. And have been making classic scissors in Sheffield since 1760.

William Whiteley & Sons has crafted the world's finest scissors and shears in Sheffield since 1760 - making them the oldest scissorsmiths in the western world and the UK's last remaining industrial scissor maker. Founded by William Whiteley and passed through eleven generations of direct family descent, this remarkable heritage spans over 260 years of unbroken excellence. Every pair is still hand-forged using traditional techniques lovingly handed down from master to apprentice, hot-forged from the finest Sheffield steel and individually tested. The company produces over 250 different types for cutting virtually every material - from delicate embroidery silks to industrial Kevlar. Their scissors won exhibition medals in London (1851, 1862) and Paris (1855), supplied the Royal Family and Savile Row tailors, and incorporate the historic Wilkinson trademark (Thomas Wilkinson & Sons, established 1875).
