Embroidery Stork Scissors

There is nothing quite so beautiful and unique as stork embroidery scissors. Hand made in Sheffield by master craftsmen and women by William Whiteley & Sons. They have very sharp blades and fine points that are perfect for delicate work. And far superior to other stork scissors.
Is is still unclear where or how stork embroidery scissors came into being. But one story is that they began as midwife clamps (hence the stork) that were used to hold the umbilical cord. And midwifes would often do needlework whilst waiting for the birth to while away the time and it is thought that the midwife clamps, that were shaped as storks would often get mixed up with their embroidery scissors. And over time the scissors evolved into the shape of storks. With a story like that wouldn't they make a beautiful addition to your sewing box.
William Whiteley & Sons are the oldest scissors works in the Western world. And have been making classic scissors in Sheffield since 1760.

Meet the Maker: William Whiteley & Sons

William Whiteley & Sons has crafted the world's finest scissors and shears in Sheffield since 1760 - making them the oldest scissorsmiths in the western world and the UK's last remaining industrial scissor maker. Founded by William Whiteley and passed through eleven generations of direct family descent, this remarkable heritage spans over 260 years of unbroken excellence. Every pair is still hand-forged using traditional techniques lovingly handed down from master to apprentice, hot-forged from the finest Sheffield steel and individually tested. The company produces over 250 different types for cutting virtually every material - from delicate embroidery silks to industrial Kevlar. Their scissors won exhibition medals in London (1851, 1862) and Paris (1855), supplied the Royal Family and Savile Row tailors, and incorporate the historic Wilkinson trademark (Thomas Wilkinson & Sons, established 1875). Sheffield's legendary reputation for steel and cutting implements lives on in every William Whiteley creation - precision tools trusted by professionals worldwide and built to last generations.
