Meet the Maker: Welcombe Hills Vineyard

Welcombe Hills Vineyard produces award-winning English wines from land once owned by the Shakespeare family, perched high on Welcombe Hills overlooking picturesque Stratford-upon-Avon. Planted in 2001, this family-run vineyard benefits from an ideal microclimate - south-facing slopes, relatively frost-free conditions, and well-drained clay soils rolling down to the River Avon create perfect English wine terroir, supported by neighbouring Snitterfield Fruit Farm's success and the Vale of Evesham's famous orchards. Now managed by husband-and-wife team Nichola and Jonathan Kelsey since 2017, they craft both still and sparkling wines from varieties including Bacchus, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc. Over 18 years of winemaking expertise has garnered multiple awards and established national recognition. Visitors can enjoy vineyard tours and tastings amongst the vines, sampling wines that capture Warwickshire's character. Welcombe Hills proves English wine rivals any in the world when grown with passion on Shakespeare's historic land.
