Battle Of Britain Silk Pocket Square

Battle Of Britain' is a high quality, large-size silk pocket square with hand-rolled and hand-sewn hem. It is made in Macclesfield the traditional home of English silk printing and presented in a complimentary gift box. It was created using the famous painting, 'Battle Of Britain' by artist Paul Nash (1889-1946), in collaboration with the Imperial War Museums (IWM). Dating from 1941, Nash's original work was painted in oils on canvas and was one of four large works on the theme of aerial conflict commissioned from him by the War Artists' Advisory Committee. The Chairman of the Committee, Kenneth Clark, recognised the allegorical nature of the painting, where it appears that defences rise out of the English landscape and attackers plummet to the earth that has defeated them.
Nash had wide ranging artistic and literary talents but is often remembered as a surrealist and war artist of both World Wars.
