Meet the Maker: Haws Watering Cans

Established in 1886, Haws is the world's oldest manufacturer of watering cans, founded when gardener John Haws patented his revolutionary design for perfect balance and ease of use. For over 138 years, these handcrafted cans have been meticulously produced in England, with each metal watering can passing through over 200 individual steps in a rigorous 10-stage process including metal spinning, delicate soldering, and hand-polishing. Crafted from galvanised steel and timeless copper that develops a beautiful patina, every piece is made in Smethwick, West Midlands by skilled artisans employing traditional methods passed down through generations. The company holds prestigious recognition from the Royal Horticultural Society and has been featured at Chelsea Flower Show since 1913, cementing their reputation as the pinnacle of British horticultural heritage and superior craftsmanship.
