RW and Sons Candle

These beeswax candles certainly are different. Created in small batches and hand poured by Askew Candles in Darlington are made from moulds of original bottles from RW and Sons. RW and Sons may have been the forerunner business of R.Whites lemonade, of secret lemonade drinker fame. The 'White' embossed letters would seem to confirm this but if any one has any information on this we would love to hear. These bottle candles evoke a sense of history of bottle making, when the intricate design was almost as important as the lotions and potions they held.

Meet the Maker: Askews Candles

Three brothers - Tom, Joe and George Askew - handcraft unique beeswax candles in the stables of their family home in Hurworth, near Darlington. Founded in 2016 when George transformed his candle-making hobby into a family business, Askews Candles creates each piece using custom moulds from antique and vintage British bottles sourced from charity shops, antique dealers and bottle enthusiasts across the country. Using one hundred percent British beeswax with natural wicks, these candles offer exceptional burn times up to one hundred hours, producing a clean, bright golden flame with a subtle honey aroma. The bottle designs - from Victorian poison bottles to Yorkshire brewery bottles - preserve North East heritage and British brewing history in functional form. Beeswax is completely sustainable, and supporting these candles means supporting Britain's vital bee population. Featured in Country Living and Period Living, Askews Candles represent brotherhood, sustainability and the preservation of British industrial heritage.
