The Reef Pea Coat, essential dressing for when the weather gets wild. Montgomery Reef is an accurate re-interpretation of our pea coat from around 1900. Montgomery Reef in original heavy Melton wool mix, this fabric in original Royal Navy blue, matches the original weight, 1000 gsm, thirty ounces per square metre, and as the war versions is made from fully recycled fabric.
Short and fitted this classic works well with all outfits when you need to keep the weather out. Gets better with age.
Made in England since at least 1893, our Reef pea coat is a true Original, its provenance unquestioned.
Originally made for the Royal Navy, the Reef jacket as it was known, offered protection and versatility. Our version is lighter and more elegant than the crude original and will become an icon.

Original Montgomery has dressed everyone from the British Admiralty to fashion models since supplying the Royal Navy with duffle coats in the 1890s. Named in homage to Field Marshal Montgomery who made the duffle coat standard issue for troops during World War II, this Northampton-based manufacturer continues to handcraft authentic toggle coats and submariner sweaters in England using traditional construction methods. Their iconic duffle coats feature luxurious recycled wool from Italian mills in Tuscany, genuine buffalo horn toggles, and oak bark tanned leather details. Each garment is meticulously hand-finished with the same dedication to warmth, protection, and durability that has defined Montgomery for over 125 years. Their premium British-made knitwear, including classic submariner sweaters in merino wool, carries forward the proud heritage of nautical outerwear excellence.
