Meet the Maker: Roebuck Estates

Established in 2013 near the picturesque market town of Petworth in West Sussex, Roebuck Estates was founded by friends Mike Smith and John Ball, whose passion for wine and belief in English viticulture led them to spend years searching for perfect vineyard sites. Their award-winning vintage sparkling wines are crafted exclusively from estate-grown grapes across nearly 120 acres of Sussex vineyards, planted on south-facing slopes with chalk, clay, and sandy soils. As founding members of the Sustainable Wines of Great Britain certification scheme, they hand-harvest all fruit, ferment partially in old Burgundian oak for complexity, and age wines on lees for a minimum of 36 months before release. Their exceptional 2018 Classic Cuvée earned 92 points from Decanter, with reviewers praising its generous, expressive character. These quintessentially English sparklers rival the finest Champagnes.
