Meet the Maker: Melin Tregwynt

Nestled in a remote Pembrokeshire valley, this whitewashed woollen mill has woven Welsh textiles since 1819, originally as a corn mill before converting to wool processing. Purchased by Henry Griffiths in 1912, Melin Tregwynt remains family-operated - now as an Employee Ownership Trust since 2022, safeguarding its unique legacy and 42 employees' futures. Their signature double-cloth Welsh tapestry weave, dating to the 18th century, layers two fabrics together for exceptional durability and bold patterning impossible with digital design. Drawing on traditional cartheni blanket techniques handed down through generations, their contemporary designs grace design-led stores and luxury hotels worldwide from Japan to America. Melin Tregwynt even wove the world's largest picnic blanket for the Guinness Book of Records, celebrating Welsh craftsmanship on the global stage.
