The St Eval Candles workshop is powered by three main sources. tThe quietest wind turbine in the country. PV solar panels installed on their workshop roof. And a biomass boiler. This means that St Eval Candles is almost carbon neutral.
Each one of their scented tin candles and dinner candles is presented in packaging that is beautiful and eco-friendly in equal measure, as it comes from recycled sources. They work closely with the RSPB to help preserve many rare birds that nest around the farm where they create their British made candles. Which leads to an area of sanctuary for wildlife for generations to come. St Eval candles’ ethical stance is not the only thing that makes them special, however. It is also the age-old techniques and craftsmanship they use to produce such delightfully scented and long-burning candles. Each of their freestanding dinner candles is drawn by a beautifully maintained machine from 1947. Which draws the wax gently around a large wheel. And then the candles themselves are cut by hand and whittled to expose the wick.
Their scented tin candles are all hand-poured, which although is a laborious process, it produces a far superior candle with a cold throw that is just as good as its hot throw. Plus, all of St Eval’s British made candles are scented with inspirations from the British countryside. From traditional Apple & Elderberry and Hawthorn & Briar to more experimental modern scents like Tomato & Basil, and Sea Salt.
