Originally worn by fisherman to protect them from the winds that whipped off the sea around Britain. They were originally made from sailcloth which was great at protecting them from all that mother nature threw at them.
The Yarmouth Oilskins iconic traditional Fisherman’s Classic navy Smock has been refined to become even more comfortable and functional. In bygone times fishermen would wear them over thick wool jumpers. Cut with a shorter sleeve to stop them from getting wet while lugging their catch. They soon caught on with artists, craftsmen and craftswomen, not only across Britain but the throughout the world.
The Classic Navy Smock from Yarmouth Oilskins has a wider open neck and two pockets, made in 100% cotton twill and with contrast taped vents and cuffs treatment. The beauty of cotton twill is that the more the smock is washed the more it becomes yours, giving that lived in look.

**PLEASE NOTE** this style is based on a traditional fishing smock, worn loose as a protective garment over others. The fabric is non stretch, and it’s an over-the-head style so we suggest sizing up rather than down, to allow for ease of movement and dressing
